Sanofi's Taxotere gets U.S. approval for use in head and neck cancer
SNY 42.50, -0.03, -0.1%) , the world's third largest drugmaker, Monday said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new application for its anti-cancer drug Taxotere.
The drug has been approved to treat locally advanced head and neck cancer prior to chemoradiotherapy and surgery, Sanofi-Aventis said.

Standard Medicare Premium Will Rise 3.1% Next Year
WASHINGTON, Oct. 1 The Bush administration announced Monday that the standard Medicare premium would rise to $96.40 a month next year, an increase of $2.90 a month. The 3.1 percent increase is the smallest since 1999-2000, when the premium was at the same level, $45.50, for two years in a row.

US FDA Considering 'Behind-The-Counter' Drug Status
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday it is considering the possibility of establishing a "behind-the-counter" system that could allow more prescription drugs to be sold without customers actually having a prescription for them.

FDA halts testing of Idenix drug for hepatitis
Idenix Pharmaceuticals Inc., a Cambridge-based drug company, said yesterday that federal regulators suspended testing of its hepatitis C drug, resulting in a 38 percent drop in the company's stock.
